The Production Process
If you have already worked with a production company, you probably don’t need to read this information. If you’re new to video creation, this is a good place to start.
Producing a video/dvd is similar to other “construction” jobs. There are four main points to consider. Who is the target audience? What are we building? What is the timeline? And, what is the budget. Now, let’s look more closely at each of those.
Who is the target audience?
When we start to create a communication tool, a commercial, promotional DVD, internet sales video, we always keep in mind who the target audience is and what motivates them to act – to call, buy, order etc. We will spend time with you honing your understanding of who the target audience is and what’s the best way to reach them with your sales / marketing message through the use of a DVD, internet video or television commercial.
What are we building (or producing)?
We produce three main products. One – we create fully authored DVDs. Second, we create internet communication videos linked to websites. Lastly, we produce television commercials for broadcast or cable stations. Each product has a different approach, timeline, steps and budget. Each may involve all or selected services from Lake Erie Video Productions. Writing, direction, shooting, voice-over, studio editing, graphic design, duplication and distribution.
What is your timeline?
When is your project due? We respect your deadlines but need to know when the project is due so we can plan accordingly. Clients often ask how long sometimes takes to complete. This is a difficult question to answer because each project can be different. We will spend time with you developing an appropriate timeline and we will do everything in our power to meet deadlines.
What is your budget?
Very rarely does someone say “budget is not a concern.” Ok, truth is we’ve never heard that statement. So, we ask, “What is your budget?” You may not have one so we can develop an estimate based on our current understanding of your project. You get or give approval and we proceed with the work. It’s important that you fully understand the estimate so don’t hesitate to ask many questions.
